Lot of Daimon/Spirit

In the Hellenistic astrological tradition, 'Lots' (Greek: Kleros; Latin: Pars) are calculated sensitive points derived from the angular relationships between two planets and the Ascendant. The two most important Lots are the Lot of Fortune (Tykhe) and the Lot of Spirit (Daimon). While Fortune governs the body, tangible circumstances, and what happens to the native, Spirit governs the soul's intentional actions, vocation, and karmic motivation.

The Greek word 'Daimon' (from which 'demon' is derived, though the Hellenistic meaning is entirely different) referred to the guiding spirit — the higher self or divine intelligence accompanying a person throughout life. Its house position indicates the life domain through which purpose is expressed; its sign describes the style and quality of that pursuit; the planet ruling that sign acts as the 'Lord of Spirit' — the single most important planet for reading the native's vocation and karmic trajectory.

The Lot of Spirit reveals the karmic engine of a person's life — the active, motivating principle that drives them to act, strive, and pursue meaning. Its house placement shows through which domain of life that engine runs most powerfully: Spirit in the 10th indicates a life driven by professional achievement and public recognition; Spirit in the 9th suggests a philosophical or spiritual vocation; Spirit in the 7th points toward relationships and diplomacy as the primary arena of purpose.
