Zodiacal Releasing of Spirit

Zodiacal Releasing (ZR) is a sign-based, non-degree timing system revived from the Hellenistic author Vettius Valens (2nd century CE). The technique works by releasing — counting forward sign by sign — from a natal 'Lot' (Greek: Kleros), using the minor years of each sign's ruling planet as the period length. ZR can be applied from either of the two primary Lots: the Lot of Fortune (Kleros Tykhe), which governs the body and tangible circumstances, or the Lot of Spirit (Kleros Daimonos), which governs soul, action, and career.

When releasing from the Lot of Spirit, the sequence of signs produces nested periods at four levels (called Level 1 through Level 4), each representing a different time scale — from multi-year chapters down to monthly sub-periods. The sign occupying each period is associated with a planet that rules it; that planet's natal condition, house, and aspects describe the quality of that time period for career and public recognition.

A concept unique to ZR is the 'Loosing from Bonding' (LB) — periods when the releasing shifts out of a sign in a bound (the 5th and 11th signs from the Lot) into a more active phase. These LB periods are widely observed to correspond with major career turning points, rises to prominence, and periods of heightened achievement.

Zodiacal Releasing from Spirit reveals the macro-architecture of a person's active professional life: when the great career chapters begin and end, and within them, which sub-periods are likely to bring recognition, achievement, or difficulty. Practitioners observe that Level 1 periods ruled by planets angular in the natal chart and in positive condition tend to correlate with professional flourishing.

The Loosing from Bonding (LB) periods are the most-watched events in ZR career analysis. When both Level 1 and Level 2 enter LB simultaneously, classical Hellenistic practitioners from Vettius Valens onwards describe this as a 'peak period' — an interval of one to several years when a person is most visible to the world, most likely to achieve public recognition, and most energetically engaged in their vocation. Understanding where these LB windows fall in a life map helps reframe career timelines within a longer perspective.
